Arranging a School or Library Visit

Kathy Stinson with some fansMy aim in doing readings with kids is to excite or re-excite them about reading and writing. I believe the value of the visit increases when students are already familiar with some Kathy Stinson books, appropriate to their age level, and that students who have had considerable reading and writing experience tend to get more from a visit.

Reading aloud from my work - a published book and/or a work-in-progress - is an important part of any visit, but most of the time is spent in discussion of various aspects of the writing and editing process and of my writing career. (I often start at the beginning and read the kids a story I wrote when I was in school.)

I am happy to do a general presentation - talking about getting ideas and doing revisions, as those aspects of the writing process pertain to a variety of my titles - or teachers may ask for a presentation more focused on a specific title, based on one of my suggested themes or one of their own ideas.

Before contacting me, please read about audience sizes and the cost of hosting a visit.
