Arranging a School or Library Visit

Kathy Stinson at a school visit

Kathy is happy to do a general presentation – talking about getting ideas and doing revisions, as those aspects of the writing process pertain to a variety of my titles – or teachers may ask her to focus on a specific title, based on one of my suggested themes or one of their own ideas.

Reading aloud from my work – a published book and/or a work-in-progress – is an important part of any visit. So is discussing various aspects of the writing and editing process. (I sometimes start at the beginning of my career and read a story I wrote when I was in elementary school.)

Students she has met with are generally pretty excited about reading – and writing too – for months after our visit. Here’s what one teacher-librarian said after a visit in 2009:

It was wonderful to meet you last week & I wanted to sincerely thank you for sharing time with us. Our students are all in a buzz this week as I follow-up with them. You truly connected with our children on many levels and the common thread that keeps coming through is that you cared, you listened, you truly answered their questions and you inspired the creative juices in the young minds of today and the creative thinkers of tomorrow.

Students tend to get most out of a visit when they have been introduced to Kathy Stinson books appropriate to their age level ahead of time. It helps if they’ve had a range of writing experiences, too.

It’s easy to arrange a school or library visit. Just send Kathy an email!

Before contacting her, please read about audience sizes and the cost of hosting a visit.
